Storybook Moments ~ Springtime Seed Card
Storybook Moments ~ Springtime Seed Card
Ahhhhhhh, who else is ready for Spring? Here in Oklahoma, Spring = tornados.
I consider myself a California transplant (going on 13 years) and still not use to 'severe storms',
and most certainly NOT a fan of visiting the land of Oz anytime soon.
However, I am soooo ready for green grass and warmer temperatures!!!!
I'm also ready to start creating and mailing my favorite kind of cards........
my annual 'SEED cards'.
I must admit, I do not have a green thumb. Although, I can keep things 'alive'. So, I guess it's safe to say that I don't have a black thumb either. Lol!! I've tried planting seeds in little starter pots, with the promise of serving a gorgeous, homegrown, handpicked salad one night with supper. Ha, hasn't happened yet. In fact, my dream has yet to make it past the cute little green shoots poking their heads above the dirt. It's my conclusion that I might be trying too hard.

A few years ago, after literally tossing a couple of hands full of 'butterfly garden' seeds into our front flowerbed, watering them only a couple of times, when I remembered......up bloomed the most beautiful variety of cheerful, brightly colored random flowers that I had ever seen. Needless to say, the local butterflies approved wholeheartedly as well.
Beauty attracts beauty!!!
Back to my feature 'SEED card'. When I first saw the Storybook Moments Suite, I knew I just had to create this year's 'SEED cards' with it. The entire suite of products has such a sweet storybook charm, with adorably cute critters and garden themed details that are perfect for your springtime paper crafting projects.
This card is not only just a 'fun fold', but my favorite part is that it also includes a fun surprise inside too......a SEED packet.
To keep with the 'garden' theme, I chose a carrot seeds. I felt this particular card packet had the same sort of 'charm' about it as the Storybook Moments suite, and they complimented each other so well. Funny enough, I just so happened to stumble upon them at a sweet little local giftshop....... and they were free. I chose a few flower seed packets to purchase and the cashier offered the vegetable packets for free. She said "I just want to get rid of them". Ha, you don't have to tell me twice. And they're cute to boot!!!! Thank you very much 'mam.
Odd angle for a photo, but I wanted you to see the 'fun fold'. It's actually called a 'Z' fold, because the card base itself, once folded resembles the letter 'Z'. (*more like a backwards 'Z')
I've obviously added a seed packet here. Though, depending on the occasion and even the theme of your card, you can insert any number of different things. Perhaps a couple of tea bags for a Get Well or Mother's Day card. Lottery tickets for a birthday or Father's Day card. Add some pretty ephemera pieces for a fellow crafter friend. Or, how about a handful of fun stickers and/or rub on tattoos for a fun surprise in a child's birthday card. OR if you'd rather skip the pocket entirely and the fun fold is still a fun card to give.
I hope you give it a try ๐

MEASUREMENTS & INSTRUCTIONS for this card:
1. 5 1/2" x 11" Old Olive Cardstock. Score the long side at 2 1/8" and 5 1/2"
2. Fold the 2 1/8 score line as a mountain fold (score line up) and fold the 5 1/2" score line as a valley
fold (score line down).
3. Cut two pieces of Basic White Cardstock using the second largest Perennial Postage dies.
3. Cut 2 pieces of the Storybook Moments DSP. One @ 3 3/8" x 4 3/4" and the second piece @
1 1/4" x 4"
4. Adhere the larger DSP piece to the center of one of the Basic White layers.
5. Using liquid glue ONLY on the lefthand back side of this Basic White layer, adhere to only the
left side of the card front......stopping at that 2 18/" score line. See photo above for better
reference.
5. Using a very fine line of liquid glue to only the sides and the bottom of the smaller DSP piece,
adhere it to the very bottom of the second Basic White layers, creating the seed pocket.
6. Cut a 2" x 4 1/4" piece from the Timeless Plaid DSP pack. Trim this piece into 5 strips.
These should end up being close to 3/4" x 2" and 1' x 2"
7. Adhere these to the card front, staggering them each from left to right. I glue 3 of the 5 strips
flat and then added dimensionals to the #2 & #4 DSP strips, simply for interest. This creates an
uneven appearance.
8. To complete the card front I layered the following pieces;
*Vellum circle, cut using the Spotlight On Nature Dies
*Die cut pieces from the Storybook Moments DSP pack, die cut sheet.
*Sentiment from the Greetings For All Mix & Match Ephemera Pack
9. Adhere the second Basic White Perennial Postage 'pocket layer' piece to the inside of
your card.
10. Finally, add your seed packet and mail to someone dear.
